Whats going on with the Cincinnati Bengals

October 9th, 2012

The 2012 NFL Season kicked off with the Cincinnati Bengals being a team to watch out for as they finished off a 2011 season with a wild-card berth out of the AFC North. The team moved in the right direction after drafting A.J. Green and Andy Dalton last season with both players teaming up while making this team a playoff contender.

First up for them in 2012 was a game with division rival Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football. The Bengals came out flat and got smashed 44-13. Dalton turned the ball over twice including a interception that was returned for a touchdown by future hall of fame safety Ed Reed. The one positive was BenJarvus Green-Ellis rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown.

The Bengals rebounded with a 3 game winning streak beating the Cleveland Browns, Washington Redskins and the Jacksonville Jaguars. In the three game winning streak Andy Dalton threw for 890 yards and 8 touchdowns with only 3 interceptons. A.J. Green added 22 catches for 358 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Bengals need these two playmakers to play at a high level if the team wants to continue to win.

In a week 5 loss to the Miami Dolphins the Bengals offense was held to 13 points the same amount they were held to in the week 1 loss to the Ravens. The Dolphins forced 3 turnovers including 2 interceptions thrown by Andy Dalton. The bright spot was Green had his fourth straight game with a touchdown reception.

Marvin Lewis and the Bengals get the Browns in week 6 before squaring off against the Pittsburgh Steelers in a battle of two teams fighting for the AFC North. The Bengals will get a much needed week off after that game before facing off against the Manning brothers in back to back weeks. They will get Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos in week 9 and then Eli Manning and the New York Giants in week 10 both games are at home. The Bengals also will end the season taking on the Steelers in week 16 and Ravens in week 17 both games are big for the division.

Whats wrong with the New Orleans Saints

October 5th, 2012

Drew Brees heads in to this weeks match-up against the San Diego Chargers tied with the great Johnny Unitas for consecutive games throwing a touchdown. He only needs 1 in this game to break the record that has stood for nearly 50 years as Unitas streak ended on December 11th, 1960. As we stand Brees has thrown a touchdown pass in 47 straight games dating back to Oct 18th, 2009. Now as for the New Orleans Saints the team has gotten off to a terrible start and have a tough match-up to get their first win of the Season.

San Diego will travel to New Orleans where the Saints hope to get win number 1 on the season. Now as for Brees he will have extra motivation as the NFL has approved that Sean Payton, Mickey Loomis and Joe Vitt all be granted permission to attend the game. All 3 are currently suspended due to the off season bounty gate news.

Now the Saints kicked off the season against the Washington Redskins in a game that no one saw the Skins winning but in the end they held off the Saints. The followed that loss up to a division rival the Carolina Panthers losing another close game before taking on the Kansas City Chiefs. A team that was coming in to the game 0-2 but found a way to win in overtime. The Saints made improvements and nearly knocked off Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers losing 28-27. No one saw this coming as the Super Bowl will be held in New Orleans this year and many around the league thought the Saints had a great chance of playing in that game. As it currently sits they will have to go on a long winning streak just to make it as a wild card team.

Week two for the Denver Broncos

September 19th, 2012

The Denver Broncos got off to a great start in week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers but came out week 2 like a totally different team against the Atlanta Falcons. The main difference between the games was the turnovers as in week 1 the Broncos had 1 turnover a fumble but in week 2 committed 4 with 3 interceptions coming in the first quarter. The Broncos also would lose another fumble in the running game.

Week 1 against the Steelers the Broncos were able to not turn the ball over leading to points. Peyton Manning threw for 253 yards and 2 touchdowns. In the game Peyton threw his 400th and 401st touchdowns of his career. The 1 turnover was a fumble from Willis McGahee. The defense also got to Ben Roethlisberger 5 times to help make the Steelers fight for 1st downs. The Broncos would go on to win the game 31-19.

In week 2 though it was a total opposite as the team turned the ball over 4 times including 3 1st quarter interceptions thrown by Peyton Manning. The Broncos fell behind 20 to 0 before scoring a touchdown before the half. Peyton would finish with 1 touchdown, 3 interceptions while throwing for 241 yards. . Willis McGahee would add 2 touchdowns on the ground to go with 113 yards rushing. It was McGahee’s 31st game with over 100 yards in his career. The Broncos in the end just came up short and fall to the Falcons 27-21. The Broncos move to 1-1 on the season while the Falcons move to 2-0.

Next up for the Broncos is the Houston Texans who are 2-0 on the Season. The game will be played at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. Look for Peyton to rebound this week if the Broncos have any chance of winning against the Texans. Houston is ranked 1st in defense in total yards allowed per game, 1st against the pass and also 1st in points allowed per game with 8.5. So the Broncos will need to be more efficient and not turn the ball over.
