PETE METZELAARS (TE. Seahawks, Bills, Panthers and Lions 1982-97) spent 10 of his 16 NFL seasons in Buffalo and never missed a game as a Bill. He enjoyed his best season in 1993 when he led the Bills with 68 receptions for 609 yards and four touchdowns. "It was exciting for me to catch that many balls;' he said, -especially on a team that again ended up going to a Super Bowl." Metzelaars is proud of playing in four straight Super Bowls and setting the NFL record for games played by a tight end (235). He would like to return to Buffalo one day as a coach "because of the great atmosphere there. Buffalo fans are passionate, knowledgeable and very involved in the game:" Metzelaars is in his first year as quality-control coach for the Indianapolis Colts. He and his wife live in Indianapolis. Ind.. and have two sons.

BUTCH BYRD (DB. Bills and Broncos 196471), the Buffalo Bills' all-time leader in interceptions, is a mortgage loan officer for All-Pro Solutions. In 1964, Byrd bypassed the NFL to play for the AFL's Buffalo Bills and be near his hometown of Albany, N.Y. Byrd was an immediate starter and helped the Bills win back-to-back lea-Lie titles. "We were truly a great defensive team;' Byrd said. "Both years, we played the ( San Diego) Chargers (in the title game) and they were so talented on paper that it was hard to see how we could beat them. But on game day, we were very confident. We just felt our defense could play with anybody." Although the Bills went into steady decline following their championship run, Byrd continued to excel as a cornerback. He played in five AFL All-Star games and retired with 40 career interceptions. A graduate of Boston University, he lives in Westboro, Mass., with his wife Carolyn. The Byrd's have four children and four grandchildren.

WRAY CARLTON (HB-FB. Bills 1960-67) was a bruising runner and blocker whose name will always be the answer to a Bills trivia question. Playing the franchise's second regular-season game, Carlton made history when he scored the first-ever Bills touchdown on a one-yard run. The first rushing leader in team history, Wray was a key contributer in both of the Bills' AFL title runs. "We proved you didn't have to be flashy to win;" said Carlton. "( San Diego) had big-name guys like Lance Alworth. We were just blue-collar guys that Went Out and beat you by playing methodical, mistake-free football." Carlton retired in 1967 as Buffalo's all-time leading rusher with 3,368 yards. Today he rank, fourth behind Thurman Thomas, O.J. Simpson and Joe Crihhs. In 1996, Carlton retired after three decades of work for Empire State Shippers. He and his wife split time evenly between homes in Orchard Park, N.Y., and Bald Head Island. N.C., and enjoy spending time with their three children and 10 grandchildren.
